Premiere Pro time tracking that shows what each wedding earns
Premiere Pro time tracking in Hailo has no timer to remember: a small menu bar helper counts the hours you spend editing and ties them to the wedding you are cutting. It works the same way for Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and it turns those hours into what each film actually earns per hour.
What you get
Editing time, tracked
A small menu bar timer counts the hours you spend in your editor.

A time tracker on your Mac that starts itself
Hailo installs the time agent the first time the app runs, and from then on it starts whenever you log in to your Mac, whether Hailo is open or not. It has no window and no Dock icon, only the Hailo mark in the menu bar, with a dot and a running count while it is tracking. That is what automatic time tracking on a Mac should feel like: you edit, and the hours add up.
Click the icon for today's hours, this week's hours, and a line naming the editor and project it is counting. Pause tracking for 1 hour is there for when you leave a render running and walk away. You pick which editor it watches under Settings > Your editor, the same choice that sets your export format.
What counts as editing time
A second counts when your editor is the app in front and you are working in it, or it is playing back or rendering with your hands off the mouse. Reading email with Premiere Pro behind another window does not count. The agent needs no special permission to count time.
One permission is optional. On newer macOS, Screen Recording lets the agent read the name of the project that is open, so your hours attach to the right wedding on their own. Decline it and time still counts, just without a project name, and you link it to a wedding later.
What each film earns per hour
Open the Edit time widget on the dashboard, or All editing on a client's Financials tab, and the Editing time page puts it together. A pill reads Live while an editor is open and tracking, Idle when not. Across the top: your hours over the last 30 days, a blended rate across every film you edited, and what those hours are worth at that rate.
Below that, Billable by film lists each wedding with its booked amount, its hours and its rate: the booked amount divided by every hour ever tracked on it. Where you edit shows how your hours split across editors. The dashboard widget gives the same picture by day, week, month or year, with a row for hours on projects you have not linked yet.
Linking takes a moment per project. Click Link NLE project, find the project under Detected, and choose the couple; every client is listed, including ones you brought over from another CRM. Or drag the project file in. Every hour after that counts toward that film. To see costs as well as hours, tie expenses to the wedding in Finance.
Premiere Pro time tracking that knows what the wedding booked
Plenty of time tracking for creatives can tell you how long last Tuesday's edit ran. What it cannot know is that the wedding you were cutting booked for a certain amount, so it cannot tell you whether those hours paid. Hailo already holds the booking, so the rate it shows is the real one.
That changes pricing conversations with yourself. A Premiere Pro time tracker that sits beside your bookings shows which packages run long in the edit and which films paid less per hour than you thought, and that is worth knowing before you set next season's prices or revenue goals.
How you use it in Hailo
- Open Hailo once on your Mac. The time agent installs itself and appears in the menu bar.
- Under Settings > Your editor, pick Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
- Edit as usual. Allow the optional permission if you want hours to attach to projects by name.
- On the Editing time page, click Link NLE project and point each project at its wedding.
- Read the rate for every film under Billable by film.
Questions filmmakers ask
How do I track time spent in Premiere Pro?
Install Hailo and choose Premiere Pro under Settings > Your editor, and Premiere Pro time tracking runs on its own from then on. The menu bar helper counts the seconds you work in Premiere Pro, including playback and renders, and skips the time it sits behind another app. Link each project to its wedding once, and every later hour counts toward that film.
Does it work with Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve?
Yes. The same helper is a DaVinci Resolve time tracker or a Final Cut Pro one, depending on the editor you pick under Settings > Your editor, and you can switch whenever you change editors. Projects you open in any of the three can be linked to a wedding, and the Where you edit chart shows how your hours split between them.
How long does it take to edit a wedding video?
It depends on the films you deliver, how many cameras you shot and how you cut, so there is no single honest number, and Hailo does not publish an average. What it shows you is your own answer: once your projects are linked, Billable by film lists the hours on every wedding, so you can see what your films actually take.
How do I work out my real hourly rate per wedding?
Divide what the wedding booked for by every hour you spent editing it. Hailo does that sum for you: the rate on Billable by film is the booked amount over all the hours ever tracked on that film, not only the last 30 days. Blended rate does the same across every film you edited. For costs, tie expenses to the wedding and read the Weddings report.
