Premiere Pro multicam for weddings, synced before you open it

A Premiere Pro multicam lets you cut a wedding the way you would switch it live: every angle synced in one clip, a number key for each camera. Hailo builds that clip for you, synced to your recorder and already on a timeline, and files the rest of the wedding into bins by moment. It needs one macOS permission, once.

What a Premiere Pro multicam is, and where the time goes

In Premiere Pro, a multicam source sequence holds every angle in sync as one clip. You make it by selecting the clips in the Project panel, right-clicking and choosing Create Multi-Camera Source Sequence, then picking a sync point: timecode, audio, in points or markers. Drop it into a sequence, switch the Program Monitor to its multi-camera view, and press 1, 2, 3 while it plays to cut.

That is the whole of how to create a multicam sequence in Premiere Pro. The time goes elsewhere. Premiere Pro multicam sync gets harder with a camera that stopped and restarted, two or three separate recorders, or a body whose mic sat across the room. You fix those by hand, and only then does the switching pass begin.

What Hailo hands you in Premiere Pro

Hailo syncs every camera and recorder before Premiere Pro opens. Recorders and lavs land by timecode or waveform, short takes stay on their own camera, and up to eight angles fit in one multicam. Syncing external audio covers how the recorders are placed against the cameras.

Then, through Hailo's panel, Premiere Pro receives a real multicam clip, angles synced, already on a timeline. Press 1, 2, 3 to cut between them. For a ceremony or speeches film it arrives cut and ready, so you are adjusting a finished pass rather than starting one. It goes into the project you have open, or a new one beside your build.

On the Premiere Pro multicam audio, the recorder plays on A1 under every angle, so switching the picture never switches the sound. Each camera's own audio stays on its clip, muted, for when you want the room. The ceremony cut explains who is on screen when.

The one-time Accessibility permission

Premiere Pro only creates a multicam source sequence from its own menu, and no file Hailo writes can carry one in. So Hailo clicks that one menu item for you, and macOS gates that click behind the Accessibility permission. It takes about twenty seconds, once, and it stays granted across updates. Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve never need it.

Skip it and nothing is lost. Your synced angles open on their own tracks, and you make the multicam yourself: Select All, right-click and choose Nest, then Clip > Multi-Camera > Enable. Nesting keeps every angle where Hailo put it, so the sync holds.

Bins by moment with Build the project

After a sort, Build the project puts your footage into Premiere Pro bins, one per moment in the order of the day, files every clip under its moment and adds each timeline the run made as its own sequence. Clips carry a label color by moment, so a glance at the timeline tells you prep from portraits. It answers how to organize a wedding project in Premiere Pro before you open it, and it is a Premiere Pro feature only: the other two editors take everything in one file. The editor workflow page compares them.

How you get a multicam in Premiere Pro

  1. Set Premiere Pro as your editor under Settings > Your editor.
  2. On the film builder, choose Multicam. Click Open Accessibility settings, switch Hailo on, and come back. The panel closes by itself.
  3. Add your cameras and recorder, choose where to save, and click Build the film.
  4. With Premiere Pro open, click the open button on the done screen. The multicam lands on a timeline, ready to cut.
  5. After a sort, click Build the project for bins by moment.

Questions filmmakers ask

How do I create a multicam sequence in Premiere Pro?

Select the angles in the Project panel, right-click and choose Create Multi-Camera Source Sequence, and pick audio or timecode as the sync point. Put the result in a sequence and turn on the multi-camera view in the Program Monitor to cut with the number keys. With Hailo, that clip arrives already synced and on a timeline.

Why is Create Multi-Camera Source Sequence greyed out?

Usually because the clips are selected in the timeline instead of the Project panel; the command works on clips selected in a bin. If your angles are already lined up on a timeline, select them all, right-click and choose Nest, then Clip > Multi-Camera > Enable. That is also how you finish a Hailo build if you skipped the Accessibility permission.

How do I sync multiple cameras and audio in Premiere Pro?

Create Multi-Camera Source Sequence can sync by audio, and Synchronize does the same for clips already on a timeline. Both need every angle to have heard the same sound clearly, which is where a camera across the room tends to fail. Hailo syncs every camera and recorder before Premiere Pro opens, by timecode or by waveform.

Can I import a multicam from an XML into Premiere Pro?

Premiere Pro accepts the file, but do not import Hailo's saved multicam file by hand: Premiere Pro drops every angle to the start, so your cameras play seconds apart with nothing on screen to warn you. That file arrives synced only when Hailo hands it over itself, which is what the one-time Accessibility permission is for.

How many cameras can a Premiere Pro multicam hold?

Adobe sets Premiere Pro's own ceiling, so check its documentation for your version. For a wedding, the number that matters with Hailo is eight: Hailo syncs up to eight camera angles into one multicam, with the recorder playing underneath every one of them.
