Video offload software that checks every file

Video offload software has one job that matters: get every file off the card and prove it arrived intact. Hailo copies every card and reader at once, verifies each file as it lands, writes a report next to the footage, and never changes anything on the card. Then it hands you straight to the edit.

What you get

070

Offload every card at once

Every card and reader in parallel.

071

Verified file by file

With a report written next to the footage.

072

Cards stay untouched

Hailo never changes, renames or deletes anything on a card, and never overwrites a file.

073

Spots a card when you plug it in

And offers to offload it.

What verified offloading means

A drag in Finder copies a file and assumes it worked. Verified offloading footage means each copy is read back and checked against the original before you trust it, so a flaky reader, a loose cable or a tired card shows up tonight, while the card is still in your hand. That check is the reason to use video offload software instead of a drag-and-drop backup.

In Hailo, every file is checked against the original on the card as it copies, and only takes its real name once the check passes. A half-copied file never sits in your wedding folder looking finished. The per-file list shows each file go from queued to copied to verified.

Every card at once, and the cards left alone

Plug in every card and reader you have. Each gets a row: tap what it was (A-Cam, B-Cam, Drone, Audio, Gimbal and so on), untick any folder you do not need, and start it. Insert the next card while the first is copying and it joins the list.

Cards are opened read-only. Hailo never changes, moves, renames or deletes anything on a card, whether the copy succeeds or fails, and it never overwrites a file already on your drive. If a file with the same name is already there, an identical one counts as offloaded, and a different one is saved beside it with (2) added to the name.

It leaves out what does not belong in a wedding folder: the low-resolution files some cameras write beside the real media, hidden system files, and earlier Hailo output. If the drive is too small, Hailo says so before it writes anything.

The report that stays with the footage

Click Finish offload once every card shows verified, and Hailo writes a Hailo Offload Report into the wedding folder listing every file, its size and its verification result. A notification lands in Hailo's bell with the card count and total size.

If a file failed, the report names it and the original is still on the card, untouched. Run the card again and the files already verified are skipped, not rewritten.

From the copy straight into the edit

On most nights a camera card backup is the last thing you do. In Hailo it is the first step of the edit. Start the edit opens intake on the copied folder with the couple already chosen, and Let Hailo build it lets you pick what to make and come back to finished films. What happens to the folder next is on the organizing footage page.

Hailo also remembers each card: one it has seen before shows Recognized, with last time's role filled in.

Choosing video offload software for a Mac

If you want a ShotPut Pro alternative on a Mac, or are weighing Hedge offload software, ask what you need after the copy. Hailo is a Mac app for wedding filmmakers, and its offload leads into sorting the day by moment, trimming, syncing and delivery in the same app. Each offload goes to one destination drive. If a client asks for copies to several drives in one pass, or a particular checksum report, dedicated DIT software on your Mac is the tool for that part.

How you use it in Hailo

  1. Insert a card and click the Card detected toast, or click Offload footage on the Edit launchpad.
  2. Pick the couple, or click Add a new couple and fill in the names and wedding date.
  3. Click Choose drive. Hailo makes the wedding folder for you and shows the path before you continue.
  4. For each card, tap its role, untick any folder you do not need, and click Offload this card.
  5. Insert the next card while the first copies. When every card shows verified, click Finish offload.
  6. Click Start the edit, Let Hailo build it, or Edit later.

Questions filmmakers ask

What is verified offloading?

Verified offloading means every copied file is checked against the original before you rely on it, instead of assuming the copy worked. A bad reader or cable shows up while the card is still in your hand. Hailo verifies each file as it copies, gives it its final name only after the check passes, and lists every result in the offload report.

Is ShotPut Pro or Hedge better for offloading footage?

We do not rate other tools here; check each one's own site for what it does today. The useful question is what you need beyond the copy. For several destinations in one pass or a specific checksum report, pick a dedicated offload tool. For a verified copy that leads straight into sorting and syncing a wedding, Hailo is built for that.

Can I offload multiple SD cards at once?

Yes. Every card and reader you plug in gets its own row, and several cards copy at the same time. Insert another card while the others run and it appears on the copy screen, ready to start. If some cards show up and others do not, plug the reader straight into the Mac instead of a hub.

Does offload software change the files on my card?

Hailo does not. Cards are opened read-only, and nothing on a card is changed, moved, renamed or deleted, whether the copy succeeds or fails. Hailo never formats a card either. When you are ready to reuse one, format it in the camera as you normally would. Nothing already on your destination drive is overwritten.

What is an offload report?

An offload report is a record of what was copied and whether each file checked out. Hailo writes one, named Hailo Offload Report, into the wedding folder when you finish, listing every file, its size and its verification result. It sits with the footage, so anyone who opens that folder later can see the copy was complete.
