A wedding video editing workflow that opens in your editor
A wedding video editing workflow has two halves: the hours that get the day ready to cut, and the cutting itself. Hailo takes the first half and hands you the result inside Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve: every clip filed by moment, the cameras synced, the ceremony and speeches built as real multicams, all pointing at your original files. Hailo is not an editor, and the film stays yours to make.

A wedding video editing workflow, step by step
The usual order runs like this: offload and back up the cards, sort the day by moment, set aside the shaky and soft footage, sync the cameras and recorders, build the project, cut the ceremony and speeches, cut the highlight, then grade, mix, export and deliver.
Hailo does the steps before the story. It sorts every main camera clip by moment, trims the shake, syncs the cameras and builds the project in your editor. Grading, the sound mix, the export and every creative decision stay with you.
Built for the editor you already cut in
Each editor gets a file written for that editor, not one export you repair three ways, and every Hailo update checks the files it writes for Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve before it ships. If you have ever tried to import FCPXML to Premiere Pro, you know why that matters: Premiere Pro reads a different XML than Final Cut Pro writes.
In Premiere Pro, Hailo can build the whole project with your footage in bins by moment, and a real multicam clip through Hailo's panel. Premiere Pro multicam covers the one-time permission it needs.
In Final Cut Pro, one file opens the whole wedding: projects, keyword collections by moment and a real multicam clip, with a layout that colors every part of the day by role. See Final Cut Pro multicam.
DaVinci Resolve does not open a timeline file the same way, so Hailo builds the whole project inside it, in one click on DaVinci Resolve Studio. DaVinci Resolve multicam explains the free edition's route.
The details that usually break a wedding timeline
These are handled before the project opens:
- Four ways to organize: one timeline, a timeline per moment, bins, or by part of the day.
- Moment colors in your editor. Labels carry their color in Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and by role in Final Cut Pro.
- Mixed frame rates. 60p slow motion on a 24p timeline plays its full length.
- Mixed resolutions. In ceremony and speeches cuts, a 1080 camera beside 4K bodies fills the frame.
- Multi-day, kept apart. A folder per day and a marker where each day starts.
- Re-export without re-analyzing. Change the organizing or trimming and write a fresh timeline. Nothing is charged.
- Your files, your folder. Choose where Hailo's files land. Your original footage stays on your Mac.
How you open a wedding in your editor
- Set your editor under Settings > Your editor.
- Sort a wedding, or build a ceremony or speeches film.
- On the done panel, click the open button for your editor. In Premiere Pro you can also click Build the project for bins by moment.
- Want a different layout? Change it in the Edit settings gear and click Re-export with Current Preferences.
Questions filmmakers ask
What is the best workflow for editing a wedding video?
The best wedding video editing workflow is the one that gets you to the story fastest. Offload and back up, sort by moment, drop the unusable footage, sync cameras and audio, build the project, then cut the ceremony, speeches and highlight before you grade, mix and export. Hailo covers everything up to the cutting and opens the result in your editor.
How can I edit wedding videos faster?
Take the hours out before the creative work starts. Sorting a day by moment, finding the steady parts of each clip, syncing every camera and recorder, and building bins or timelines by hand is all time spent before you make a single creative choice. Hailo does those steps, and the ceremony and speeches arrive already cut as multicams you can change.
What editing software do wedding videographers use?
Hailo builds for Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve. The best editing software for wedding videography is the one you already cut fastest in, since all three handle multicam and long timelines. Hailo is not an editor itself: it runs beside yours on a Mac and hands it an organized project.
Can I move a wedding project from Premiere Pro to DaVinci Resolve?
For your own edits, the usual route is File > Export > Final Cut Pro XML in Premiere Pro, then File > Import > Timeline in DaVinci Resolve, expecting some effects to need redoing. For what Hailo built, there is no conversion: set your editor to DaVinci Resolve and open the same run, and Hailo builds the project for it without analyzing again.
How long does it take to edit a wedding video?
It depends on how long the film is, how many cameras you ran and how much of the day you deliver, so no single number is honest for every studio. What compresses most is the work before the edit: offloading, sorting, syncing and building the project. Hailo takes that part, and the hours you keep go to the story.
