Deliver the film

Video view tracking that tells you the film was watched

Video view tracking on a wedding gallery exists to answer one question after you send the link: did they watch it? Every Hailo gallery keeps four numbers, Viewers, Plays, Furthest and Downloads, and taps you on the shoulder when the couple opens the page, reaches the end or saves the films.

Analytics

Viewers, plays, how far they watched and downloads.

Four numbers, no setup

Open any gallery in the editor and click the bar icon at the top for its Analytics panel. Under Lifetime totals sit the four numbers that tell you how a delivery landed. The same numbers show on every card in your Galleries list, so you can scan all your deliveries without opening one.

There is nothing to install and no code to paste: video view tracking starts the moment you publish.

  • Viewers: how many have opened the published gallery.
  • Plays: how many times a film was started. Plays above Viewers is normal; someone pressed play more than once.
  • Furthest: the deepest point anyone reached in the film, as a percentage. It only goes up.
  • Downloads: how many film files were saved. A download of all four films counts as four.

What video view tracking can tell you, and what it will not

Furthest is the most telling of the four. It tells you whether anyone made it to the speeches or the last dance, and it does not pretend to know who. Downloads tells you the couple has a copy of their own, which matters because a gallery closes a year after its newest film upload, and a download is what stops the download reminder in Hailo's lifecycle emails.

Hailo never names a viewer. You will not see a list of guests, email addresses or who pressed play. Those are video engagement metrics for a marketing team, and a wedding gallery does not need them to tell you the film was seen.

There is no per-second watch time or drop-off heatmap yet. A card in the panel says it is coming; until then, Furthest is the honest version of video watch time for a wedding film.

Your own visits never count

Checking your own gallery will not inflate anything. Your visits, plays and downloads are left out whether you open the page from Hailo or from a plain link in your own browser, and so is any visit to a draft or an unpublished gallery. So if Viewers is still at zero after you sent the link, the couple has not opened it yet, or the gallery is not published.

Visits through an embed on your own site are not counted either. If you show galleries on your portfolio, see embedding a gallery on your site.

Notifications on the moments that matter

You do not have to keep checking. The notification bell fires the first time the couple opens the page, when they start the film, when they reach the end, when they download, and when they come back later. Each fires at most once a day per gallery, so a busy weekend of rewatching does not flood you.

That is how to track video views on a delivery without living in a dashboard: send the link, get on with your week, and hear about it when the film is actually watched.

How you use it in Hailo

  1. Publish the gallery and send the couple the link; only published galleries count.
  2. Click the bar icon (Analytics) at the top of the gallery editor.
  3. Read Lifetime totals: Viewers, Plays, Furthest and Downloads.
  4. Scan the Galleries list, where every card shows viewers, plays, percent watched and downloads.
  5. Watch the notification bell for the first open, the first play, the end, downloads and return visits.

Questions filmmakers ask

Can you see who watched your video on Vimeo?

Vimeo analytics is one of the tools Vimeo lists, and its own help center is the place to check exactly what it reports about viewers. Hailo takes a deliberately narrower line for wedding galleries: it shows how many viewers opened the page, how many plays there were, how far anyone watched and how many files were downloaded, and it never names the people behind those numbers.

How do I know if my client watched their wedding film?

Check Furthest and the notification bell. Furthest shows the deepest point anyone reached in the film, so 100 percent means someone reached the end. The bell tells you when the couple first opened the page, started the film, reached the end and downloaded it. If nothing has moved, check the gallery is published and the couple has the right link.

What does furthest watched mean?

It is the deepest point any viewer has reached in the film, shown as a percentage. It only ever goes up, so it reflects the best progress so far, not an average. A Furthest of 80 percent on a long film tells you someone made it most of the way through. It does not say who, or how many people got that far.

Do my own views count in gallery analytics?

No. Your own visits, plays and downloads never count, whether you open the gallery from inside Hailo or from a plain link in your own browser. Visits to a draft or unpublished gallery do not count either. That means you can check a published page as often as you like and the numbers you see are the couple's and their guests'.
