Ask clients for a Google review while the film is fresh
The easiest moment to ask a client for a Google review is right after they have watched their wedding film, so Hailo puts the ask on the gallery itself: one line and one button to your Google review page, under the film. After that, lifecycle emails bring the couple back with a 30-day check-in, download reminders, a note on their first anniversary and a heads-up before the gallery closes.
What you get
Ask for a review
A Google review prompt right on the gallery.
Lifecycle emails
A closing notice, a check-in and a download reminder.
Anniversary emails
A note on their first anniversary.
Ask a client for a Google review on the gallery
Open the gallery and click Review in the rail. Write the line that sits above the button (the placeholder reads "Loved it? Would you leave us a note?") and paste your Google review link. The couple sees your line and a button that opens the page where they write the review.
How do you ask a client to leave a Google review without it feeling like a chore? Keep the line short and in your own voice: name the film, say what a review means to a small studio, and stop there. Because the prompt sits on the page they come back to, it asks again every time they rewatch, with no follow-up from you.
The section shows or hides from the Layout panel like any other. If it is on with no link saved, Layout warns you it will show without a button.
A Google review link for clients, without a link generator
You do not need a separate Google review link generator. Under the field, Get your review link opens Google's own help page for finding it. Or paste what you already have: a Google Maps link to your business from the share button, a short g.page/r/ link, or a link containing ?cid=. When you click away from the field, Hailo turns it into the write-review link.
If the button opens Google Maps instead of the review form, paste the link again and click out of the field so it can be converted.
The emails after delivery
Click the clock icon (Lifecycle) at the top of the gallery editor. Four cards, each its own switch, send from your connected mailbox. The closing notice is on for every gallery; the other three stay off until you turn them on.
- 30-day check-in: a month after the link went out, a nudge to share the film with anyone who could not be there.
- Download reminder: at one week and three weeks, and it stops the moment they download or tell you their films are saved.
- Anniversary loop: on their first wedding anniversary, their gallery link comes back around.
- Closing notice: a month and a week before the gallery closes, a request to save their films, with more time on offer when your Stripe is connected.
Anniversary messages, check-ins and the offboarding email, written once
Click the pencil on any email to edit its subject and message. Tags such as their first name, the gallery link and your studio name fill themselves, and Preview shows the real email this couple would get. The wording you save is used for every gallery, so your client offboarding email template and your anniversary message to clients are written once. Want the check-in to ask for the review too? Reword it to say so.
Hailo will not send an email with a hole in it. Every lifecycle email has to carry the gallery link, and if a tag has no value for a couple, that email is held back. The status line under each card says when it sends, that it went out, or what is missing.
The post wedding thank you email, the one with the link in it, goes out after you publish: Send to couple opens a message you read and edit before it sends. For the rest of your client emails, see email templates.
Why the anniversary note is year one only
A gallery closes a year after its newest film upload, so a five-year note would point a couple at a link that stopped working long ago. The first anniversary note brings them back while the gallery is still up, and the closing notice carries the deadline. Both nudge the couple to download, which you can see in the gallery's view and download numbers.
How you use it in Hailo
- Open the gallery, click Review, write your line and paste your Google review link or a Google Maps link.
- Check the Review section is switched on in Layout.
- Click the clock icon (Lifecycle) at the top of the editor and click the cards you want on.
- Click the pencil on each email, edit the subject and message, click Preview, then Save.
- Read the status line under each card to see when it sends, or what it still needs.
Questions filmmakers ask
How do I ask a client for a Google review?
Ask soon after delivery, with a direct link that opens the review form, and make the ask personal. In Hailo that ask lives on the gallery: one line in your words and a button to your Google review page, under the film. Each time the couple comes back to rewatch or share, the prompt is in front of them again.
Where do I find my Google review link?
Google's own help pages show you how to copy it from your business profile, and Hailo's Review panel links straight there with Get your review link. Or skip that: paste a Google Maps link to your business, a g.page/r/ short link or a link with ?cid= into the Review field, and Hailo turns it into the write-review link when you click away.
When should a wedding videographer ask for a review?
When the couple has just watched the film, because that is when the day feels closest. Putting the prompt on the gallery means the ask arrives with the film, and a 30-day check-in, reworded to mention the review, can follow up once. Ask at booking or at the wedding and it is too early; wait months and the moment has passed.
What should a wedding anniversary email to a client say?
Keep it short and about them: congratulate them on a year married, remind them their film is waiting, and include the link. Skip the sales pitch. Hailo's anniversary loop sends on their first anniversary with the gallery link filled in for each couple, in your wording, from your own mailbox, as long as the wedding date is on their project.
