Deliver the film

Custom domain video hosting for wedding films

Custom domain video delivery means the link a couple taps reads client.yourstudio.com, not someone else's address. Hailo puts your wedding film galleries on a subdomain of your own website, ends each link with the couple's names, embeds a gallery on your site with one snippet, and lets you choose how the link looks when it lands in a text thread.

Custom domain video galleries in four short steps

Open Settings and then Your domain, and click Connect your own domain. A four-step guide walks you through it: your domain, open your DNS, add the record, go live. Most filmmakers put client. in front of their website's address, so a gallery link reads like client.yourstudio.com/d/avery-and-steven.

Hailo looks up who manages your domain and, where it can, names them and links to their own guide. You add one record at your provider, with every value shown and a Copy button beside each so nothing gets mistyped. Then Hailo checks for you and gets your secure certificate ready, so the padlock shows. The whole setup takes about two minutes, plus however long your provider takes to publish the change.

Nothing goes down while you do it. Galleries keep using their Hailo link until your domain is confirmed live, and every link you have already sent keeps working afterwards. Once you are live, the Your domain page shows a Live chip, and the Share panel in each gallery shows your domain on the link.

A link that ends with the couple's names

Every new gallery gets a link ending made from the couple's names. Want something else? Open Share, then Customize the end of the link, and type over it. Spaces become hyphens and "&" becomes "and", so Avery & Steven becomes avery-and-steven.

Changing the ending never breaks a link that is already out: the original and every ending you have used still open the gallery. If another gallery already has the ending you want, add the year or the venue.

Embed video on your website with one snippet

A video gallery embed lets a portfolio page or a couple's story page on your own site show the full gallery inside it. In the editor, open Share, then Embed on your site, click Copy, and paste the snippet into your page's HTML where the gallery should sit. It resizes to fit its content, so there is no scrollbar inside a scrollbar.

Keep the whole snippet, script included, or the frame stays a fixed height. The gallery has to be published for the embed to show anything, and a gallery with a password shows its lock screen inside the frame. Visits through an embed are not counted in gallery analytics.

How the link looks when you text it

When you text a couple their link, the preview card is the first thing they see: a picture, a title and your address. The Share panel shows that card exactly as Messages and similar apps will draw it. Open Change how it looks in a text to upload a photo (or go back to the cover) and write a title of up to 120 characters.

Set both before the first send. Messages remembers a preview per link for a long time, so a thread that has already seen the link keeps showing the old card. A gallery with a password previews as your studio name only, never the couple's names or a still from their film; see passwords and expiry.

If you came here after searching for a Vimeo custom domain, a Pixieset custom domain or a Pic-Time custom domain, the reason is likely the one behind all custom domain video delivery: the link you send should carry your name, from the text preview to the address bar.

How you use it in Hailo

  1. Open Settings, then Your domain, and click Connect your own domain.
  2. Type the subdomain you want, for example client.yourstudio.com, and click Continue.
  3. Open your domain provider's DNS page (Hailo names your provider where it can) and click I'm here, next.
  4. Add the one record, copying each value Hailo shows, and click I've added it.
  5. Wait for You're live, click Done, and send your next gallery on your own address.

Questions filmmakers ask

Can I use my own domain for client galleries?

Yes. Hailo publishes galleries on a subdomain of a website you already own, such as client.yourstudio.com. Every gallery link then uses that address, including the ones you copy from the Galleries list. You set it up once for the studio under Settings and Your domain, and you can remove it at any time to go back to the Hailo link.

How do I connect a subdomain to my gallery?

Type the subdomain in Settings, Your domain, then add one record at your domain provider with the values Hailo shows you. Hailo checks it for you and readies the secure certificate. If it reads Not showing up yet, compare each value with your provider's page; a common slip is typing the whole subdomain where the provider wants only the first part, such as client.

Can I embed a video gallery on my website?

Yes. Open Share in the gallery editor, then Embed on your site, copy the snippet and paste it into your page's HTML. The frame resizes to fit the gallery. The gallery must be published, a password-protected gallery shows its lock screen inside the frame, and some website builders strip scripts, in which case set a fixed height on the frame.

Do old gallery links keep working after I add a domain?

Yes. Links you sent before connecting a domain keep opening their galleries, and new links use your domain once it is live. The same is true of link endings: changing one never breaks a link already out. If you later remove the domain, the Hailo links keep working, while links on your domain stop once its record is gone.
