Quitting while Hailo works
Know what Hailo asks when you quit during a film build or an analysis, what is kept, and how the 30-second wave-through works.
Closing the window or pressing ⌘Q while Hailo is analyzing footage or building a film would throw work away, so Hailo stops and asks first. Both the red close button and Quit from the Dock or the Hailo menu trigger the check.
The two dialogs
Hailo paints the dialog inside its own window. Which one you see depends on what is running.
A film is still building
Title: A film is still building
"Hailo is still" followed by what it is doing, for example "cutting the ceremony". "Quitting now stops it. The build starts over from the beginning the next time Hailo opens."
A pipeline is still running
Title: A pipeline is still running
"Hailo is mid-analysis on a project. Quitting now kills the run. Progress is saved up to the last finished stage, but the rest starts over next time."
What to do
- To keep working, dismiss the dialog and let Hailo finish. The Edit pill in the top bar shows how far along it is.
- To quit anyway, quit a second time within 30 seconds. Hailo lets you through without asking again.
What is kept
| Running | Kept | Lost |
|---|---|---|
| Footage analysis | Every stage that had finished. The project, its labels so far and its offloaded footage | The stage that was in progress. It runs again from its start next time |
| Film build | The project and its analysis | The build. It starts over from the beginning when Hailo next opens |
Nothing you offloaded and nothing on your footage drive is touched by quitting.
The fallback alert
If Hailo cannot paint its own dialog (for example while the page is changing), macOS shows a standard alert instead:
Pipeline still running. "Hailo is still analyzing footage for one of your projects. Quitting now will interrupt the pipeline. Your progress is saved up to the last completed stage, but unfinished stages will need to be re-run." with Quit anyway and Keep running.
Updates and quitting
Clicking Update now while a run is going shows the same dialog, because the update has to close Hailo. Let the run finish, then update. See Updates.
If it didn't work
Hailo quit without asking. Nothing was running, or you had quit once already within the last 30 seconds.
The dialog keeps coming back. A run is still going. Open Edit to see it, and either wait or pause it from the progress screen. See Pause, resume and failures.
Hailo will not quit at all. Force-quit from the Apple menu. The analysis resumes from its last finished stage the next time you open the project.
