Sign in for the first time
Enter your email on the front door, use the code or password Hailo asks for, and learn what Keep me logged in, Touch ID and Sign out do.
Every sign-in starts at the same front door: one email field. Hailo looks at the address and takes you to the right next step, whether you already have an account, you have a pending invite, or Hailo has never seen the address.
The front door
The first screen is titled Get into Hailo, with the line "Enter your email and we'll take it from there."
- Type your address in Email address.
- Press Return or click the button.
What happens next depends on the address:
| Hailo finds | What you see |
|---|---|
| An existing account | The login screen, with your email filled in |
| A pending invite | An Enter your code screen. Hailo emails you a 6-digit code |
| An invite you already used | The login screen |
| Nothing | "We couldn't find an invite or account for that email. Double-check the address, or request access below." |
New to Hailo? The Request access link on this screen opens a short form. See Invite codes and activation.
Enter the code from your invite
If your address has a pending invite, Hailo shows Enter your code with the line "We sent a 6-digit code to your address. It expires in 10 minutes."
- Open the email from Hailo and copy the code.
- Type it in 6-digit code.
- Submit.
The code expires after 10 minutes and you get 5 attempts. After that, go back and enter your email again to get a fresh code.
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| "That code didn't match. Check the email and try again." | Retype it. Codes are digits only |
| "That code expired. Go back and enter your email to get a new one." | Return to the front door and re-enter your email |
| "Too many tries. Go back and enter your email to get a new code." | Same. A new code resets the count |
The login screen
The login screen is titled Log in to Hailo, with the line "Pick up where you left off."
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Email address | Filled in from the front door. You can change it |
| Password | Your password. Show reveals it while you type |
| Keep me logged in | Checked by default. On this Mac it also remembers your sign-in so the next launch opens straight into Hailo. See Trusted devices |
| Log in | Signs you in |
| Use Touch ID | Appears at the top on a Mac with Touch ID once a remembered sign-in exists. Tap it instead of typing a password |
| Request access | For people without an account |
A wrong password clears the password field only. Your email stays.
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| "Enter both an email and a password." | One of the two fields was empty |
| "That email and password didn't match. Try again, or reset your password." | Check both. Use Reset your password if you are unsure |
| "Touch ID didn't go through. Use your password instead." | The Touch ID prompt was cancelled or failed. Type your password |
| "Network error trying Touch ID. Use your password instead." | Hailo could not reach its cloud. Check your connection |
If you started a plan on the pricing page and paid but never set a password, entering that email with any password sends you to the set-a-password step instead of a "didn't match" message.
Two-factor sign in
If two-factor authentication is on for your account, Hailo emails you a code after your password. See Two-factor authentication.
After you sign in
On a brand-new workspace, Hailo opens the onboarding wizard. On an existing workspace it opens the dashboard.
Touch ID and staying signed in
Leaving Keep me logged in checked on this Mac has two effects:
- With two-factor off, later launches open straight into Hailo with no login screen at all.
- The Use Touch ID button appears on the login screen. Tapping it signs you in with your fingerprint.
You can see and forget this on Settings > Account under This Mac. See Touch ID.
The Reconnecting hold
On the Mac app, switching wings right after a dropped connection can land you on a screen titled Reconnecting with the line "Signing you back in on this Mac." Hailo retries sign-in for about 15 seconds and then continues. You do not need to do anything. If you had signed out on purpose, Hailo skips this and shows the front door.
Sign out
- Click your avatar at the top right.
- Click Sign out.
Hailo shows "You've been logged out." and returns to the login screen with your email filled in. Your Touch ID enrolment on this Mac is kept, so Use Touch ID still works next time. Hailo will not sign you back in on its own until you log in again.
If it didn't work
The code email never arrives. Check spam and any filters. After 10 minutes, go back to the front door and enter your email again for a new code.
Hailo says it cannot find an invite or account. Check the address for typos. If you were invited under a different email, use that one. Otherwise click Request access.
The login screen keeps returning after a wing switch. See Offline and reconnecting.
