Connect Square

Add a Pay with Square link to every invoice by connecting your own Square account.

If you already run your studio on Square, connect it and every invoice gets a Pay with Square checkout link. The money lands in your own Square account and the receipt carries your studio's name. Each studio connects its own Square with a one-click sign-in.

Connect Square

  1. Open Settings > Integrations.
  2. On the Square (Payments) tile, click Connect your Square →. A browser window opens on Square's sign-in page and Hailo shows "Square sign-in opened in your browser. Approve there and this page will update."
  3. Sign in to Square and approve. If your Square account has more than one location, Hailo uses the first one.
  4. Return to Hailo. The tile reads Connected as your Square location and Hailo shows "Square connected" with the location name and "Invoices now show a Pay with Square button."

After connecting, turn on Square under Settings > Client payment methods so invoices offer it. See Client payment methods.

The connected state

The tile says your invoices show a Pay with Square checkout link, payments land in this Square account and receipts carry your studio's name.

Action What it does
Open Square dashboard ↗ Opens squareup.com in your browser.
Disconnect Hailo asks "Disconnect Square? Your invoices will stop showing a Square option until you reconnect." Confirm and Hailo shows "Square disconnected. Your invoices will no longer show a Square option."

Sandbox mode

If the tile carries the note "(Sandbox mode, test cards only.)", Square is running in test mode on Hailo's side. Real cards are declined and nothing is charged. Do not send real invoices through Square while that note is showing.

If the tile says "Setup required"

Square needs a one-time setup on Hailo's side before any studio can connect. While that is missing, the tile says "Square needs a one-time platform setup before filmmakers can connect" and "Until then, Stripe covers card payments." There is nothing to do on your side. Use Stripe for card payments in the meantime.

If it didn't work

  • "Square connection cancelled" followed by a reason. You closed or declined Square's approval. Click Connect your Square → again.
  • "Square connection couldn't be verified" with a prompt to try again. The approval came back too late or to a different session. Start again and finish in one go.
  • "Square didn't return an authorization code". The approval was interrupted. Try again.
  • "Couldn't finish connecting Square:" followed by a reason. Square accepted the sign-in but Hailo could not finish. Wait a moment and try again.
  • "Square isn't set up on the Hailo side yet". Same as Setup required above.
