Open in DaVinci Resolve
Let Hailo build your Resolve project in one click, understand how projects are named, and use the Scripts menu when the one-click build is not available.
DaVinci Resolve does not open a timeline file the way Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro do. So with Resolve as your editor, Hailo builds the project inside Resolve for you: media pool folders, every timeline, and the multicam. Set your editor under Settings > Your editor or in the Edit settings gear under NLE Target. See Edit settings.
The one-click build
- Open DaVinci Resolve.
- On the done panel after a run, click Open in Resolve. On the film builder's done screen the button reads Open for Resolve.
- Watch the status line: "Opening Resolve…", "Connecting to Resolve…", "Building your project in Resolve…", "Checking the timeline…", then "Done - 412 clips on the timeline in Resolve."
Resolve now has a project with your footage in media pool folders by moment and one timeline per file the run made.
How projects are named
Every build lands in a Resolve project named {couple} - Hailo, for example "Sarah and Ben - Hailo".
For an analysis run, a run descriptor is added in parentheses so each kind of run gets its own project: "Sarah and Ben - Hailo (Steady Clips, Bins)". The descriptor is built from what you asked for:
| Part | Values |
|---|---|
| Trimming | Steady Clips when you asked Hailo to trim shaky footage, otherwise Full Clips |
| Organisation | Bins, Timeline per Moment, or By Part of Day |
Run the same selections again and Hailo reuses that project. Change a selection and you get a new one alongside it. Film builds and blueprint exports have no descriptor and use the plain "{couple} - Hailo".
Multicam opens where every camera is rolling
A Multicam film build lands in Resolve as a true multicam clip with every angle synced. Hailo parks the playhead at the first point where every camera has picture, so the multicam viewer opens on live angles rather than black tiles from the minutes before the last camera started. The film builder's done screen says: "Open for Resolve loads a true multicam clip with every angle synced. Switch angles from the multicam view in the viewer."
No macOS permission is needed. The Accessibility step is Premiere Pro only.
The Scripts menu fallback
Sometimes Hailo cannot reach Resolve's scripting: the free edition of Resolve, scripting turned off in Resolve's preferences, or Resolve not answering. Then the done panel adds a numbered step 2:
"In Resolve, click Workspace › Scripts › Hailo - your wedding, your project builds itself."
The script is named for the couple, so with several weddings you pick the right one from the menu. Running it builds the same project the one-click path would have.
When you see this rail, the status line reads one of:
- "Resolve is open - run this wedding's Hailo script from Workspace › Scripts."
- "Finish with the Scripts menu step shown here."
- "Resolve is taking a while - if nothing appears, run this wedding's Hailo script from Workspace › Scripts."
- "Could not reach Resolve - finish with the Scripts menu step shown here."
To turn scripting on in Resolve Studio: DaVinci Resolve > Preferences > System > General > External scripting using > Local.
If it didn't work
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Could not start the build." | Resolve is not open. Open it and click again. |
| "Could not reach Resolve: …" (film builder) | Resolve is not open or scripting is off. Use the Scripts menu step. |
| The Scripts menu has no Hailo entry | Quit and reopen Resolve. Hailo installs the script when the build starts, and Resolve reads the menu at launch. |
| The project opens but every clip is offline | The footage drive is under a different name than when Hailo analyzed it. Relink in Resolve, or connect the drive under its original name. |
| A second project appeared for the same wedding | You changed a selection (trimming or organisation), so the run descriptor changed. Both projects are valid. |
