Skip the two-factor code for 30 days on a Mac you trust, how the Mac app keeps that across relaunches, and what revokes it.

A trusted device is a Mac where Hailo skips the six-digit two-factor code for 30 days. You still need your password (or Touch ID); only the emailed code is skipped. Trust applies to accounts with two-factor on. Without two-factor there is no code to skip.

How a device becomes trusted

Either of these, on a successful login, trusts the Mac for 30 days:

  • Ticking Trust this device for 30 days, don't ask for a code here on the Two-factor verification page.
  • Leaving Keep me logged in ticked on the login screen. It is ticked by default, so on your own Mac the trust is usually set the first time you log in with two-factor on.

Untick Keep me logged in and leave the trust box empty on a Mac that is not yours.

What happens when you reopen Hailo

A trusted Mac stays trusted across quitting and reopening the app, so you are not asked for a code again for 30 days. When you open Hailo:

  • With two-factor off and Keep me logged in set, Hailo signs you straight in with no login screen.
  • With two-factor on, Hailo signs you straight in only if this Mac is trusted. Otherwise you see the login screen with Use Touch ID, which counts as the second step, or the password and a fresh emailed code.

If your remembered login has expired, Hailo renews it when it can, so quitting at the wrong moment does not usually cost you a login.

What revokes trust

Action Effect
The 30 days pass That Mac asks for a code at the next login, and you can trust it again.
Forget this Mac under Settings > Account > This Mac Removes the trust and the remembered login on that one Mac. See Touch ID.
Resetting your password Removes every trusted device, everywhere you have signed in. See Reset your password.
Turning off two-factor Removes every trusted device. If you turn two-factor back on, each device must be trusted again.
Log out Does not revoke trust. Logging out keeps the Mac remembered so Touch ID still works; it only stops Hailo from signing you in on its own. See Sign out everywhere.

There is no list of trusted devices to review one by one. To drop them all at once, reset your password.

If you are asked for a code every time

  • Check that Keep me logged in was ticked when you logged in, or tick Trust this device for 30 days on the code page.
  • If you reset your password or turned two-factor off and on again, every device was forgotten. Trust the Mac again at the next login.
  • If it keeps happening on the same Mac, open Settings > Account > This Mac. If Touch ID & Remember me reads "Not set up on this Mac", log out, tick Keep me logged in and log in with your password once.
  • Turn on two-factor authenticationAdd a six-digit email code to every login, handle the login challenge, and turn two-factor off when you need to.
