Open in Premiere Pro
Open a Hailo timeline in Premiere Pro, build the whole project with bins by moment, and get a real multicam clip.
With Premiere Pro set as your editor, every "Open in" button in Hailo hands Premiere an .xml timeline that references your original files at full quality. Nothing is re-encoded.
Set your editor under Settings > Your editor, or in the Edit settings gear under NLE Target. Both are the same setting. See Edit settings.
Open a timeline
- On the done panel after a run, click Open in Premiere. The same button sits on every row under What the run actually made, on a couple's Edit hub, and on the film builder's done screen.
- Hailo exports the timeline if it has not already, then opens it in Premiere. The status line reads "Exporting your timeline…", then "Opened in your editor."
- The timeline appears as a sequence in your open Premiere project, with every clip coloured by moment.
If Premiere does not open by itself, use Show files (or Reveal in Finder) and import the .xml through File > Import in Premiere.
Build the project
Build the project appears on the done panel for Premiere Pro only. Its tooltip reads "Build a Premiere project with your footage in bins and every timeline this run made". It puts your footage into bins, one per moment in the order of the day, files every clip under its moment, and adds each timeline the run made as its own sequence.
- Open Premiere Pro.
- Click Build the project. The label reads "Building in Premiere…".
- When it finishes the label reads "Built · 12 bins, 412 clips, 2 timelines".
Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve do not have this button, because they take the whole project in one file.
Get a real multicam clip
Premiere creates a multicam source sequence only from its own menu, so Hailo clicks that menu item for you. That needs the macOS Accessibility permission, once. See Multicam permission for Premiere Pro.
With the permission on, a Multicam film build opens in Premiere as "a real multicam clip, angles synced, already on a timeline. Press 1, 2, 3 to cut between them."
Without it, your synced angles open on their own tracks and you make the multicam yourself, from that same timeline: Select All, right-click and choose Nest, then Clip > Multi-Camera > Enable. Nesting keeps every angle exactly where Hailo put it, so the sync survives.
Hailo also saves a multicam file next to the timeline. Do not import that one by hand. Premiere takes the file but drops every angle to the start, so it plays your cameras seconds apart with nothing on screen to tell you. That file only arrives synced when Hailo hands it over itself, which is what the Accessibility permission is for.
Timeline colours
Each clip carries a label colour by moment. The legend under the completion banner shows the mapping. Change the colours in the Edit settings gear under Timeline Label Colors, click Save Colors, then Re-export with Current Preferences. See Re-export.
If Premiere does not open
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Nothing happens after Open in Premiere | Premiere is not installed where macOS expects it, or it is still starting. Open Premiere first, then click again. |
| "Revealed the timeline in Finder." | Hailo could not find Premiere, so it showed you the file. Import it through File > Import. |
| "No project is open." | Build the project needs an open Premiere project. Open or create one, then click again. |
| "Could not read the run: …" or "Could not write the plan: …" | The deliverables folder or the footage drive is not reachable. Check the drive. |
| The sequence imports but every clip is offline | The footage drive has a different name than when Hailo analyzed it. Relink the media in Premiere, or plug the drive in under its original name. |
| The multicam did not appear | See Multicam permission for Premiere Pro. |
