Style profile
Tell Hailo how you edit so its picks lean your way, by writing your editing philosophy or training it on a finished film.
Hailo picks takes and orders clips using a style profile: what you have told it about how you edit, and what it has learned from films you have finished. The more it knows, the closer its first cut lands to yours. Nothing here is required; a blank profile gives you Hailo's default taste.
The Style Profile panel
In the workspace, click Style Profile to expand the panel. It has three parts.
Learn from a finished project
Point Hailo at a film you have already cut and it learns your taste from it.
- In the first field, enter the path to the finished project file exported from your editor (Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve).
- In the second field, enter the path to that wedding's raw footage folder. Optional, but adding the raw footage makes what it learns noticeably sharper.
- Click Import & Learn. The status line beside the button reports progress and the result.
Your editing philosophy
Ten free-text fields. Write in your own words; a sentence or two each is plenty, and the placeholder in each field shows the kind of answer that helps.

Click Save Philosophy. The status line confirms the save. From then on Hailo takes them into account when it picks clips.
Learned patterns
Once Hailo has learned from a finished project, a LEARNED PATTERNS summary at the bottom of the panel shows what it took from it in plain language.
The Train Your Style panel
In the project sidebar, Train Your Style goes deeper than the Style Profile: it takes a whole finished film with its music and your explanation of why you cut it that way.
- Film Style: pick what kind of film this is. Training is kept per style, so a teaser and a feature learn separately.
- Your Finished Edit: the project file exported from your editor. Click the browse button beside the field to find it.
- The Raw Footage: the original footage folder, so Hailo can see everything you had to choose from. Click Footage to browse.
- The Songs: every song used in the film, in order. Click Browse beside each, and Add Another Song for the next.
- Your Explanation: why you edited it the way you did, what the vibe was, how the song drove your decisions. More detail helps.
- Click Train on This Project.
Under it:
- What Hailo Has Learned summarizes the patterns across everything you have trained.
- Project Library lists every trained project (Refresh reloads it). Open one for a detail view with Clips, Interviews, Notes and Songs tabs, + Note to add a note, What Did You Learn?, Run Another Interview and a button that studies the songs used in the film.
- Hailo Wants to Pick Your Brain asks you a few questions about the film in its own words. Answer and click Teach Hailo how you edit, or Skip for Now.
The Learned Patterns toggle
On the results toolbar, a Learned Patterns toggle (off by default) lets Hailo lean on what it has learned from your corrections when it labels new clips. Turn it on once you have corrected a good number of clips and the summary matches how you actually work.
What Hailo does with all this
Your philosophy and trained projects shape future picks, so Hailo's first cut lands closer to the one you would have made. They apply to the timeline after an analysis, to Blueprint builds and to Cut to a Song, and never change an existing project until you re-export or rebuild.
Troubleshooting
Import & Learn reports it could not read the file. Export the project from your editor again as a project or timeline file and check the path.
Save Philosophy shows no confirmation. The workspace could not reach the engine on your Mac. Give it a moment and try again.
Hailo's picks have not changed. The profile applies to runs and exports made after you saved it. Re-export the timeline, or rebuild the film, to see the difference.
