Open in Final Cut Pro

Open a Hailo timeline in Final Cut Pro, with projects, keyword collections and a real multicam clip in one .fcpxml file.

With Final Cut Pro set as your editor, everything Hailo makes arrives in one .fcpxml file that Final Cut opens directly. Set your editor under Settings > Your editor or in the Edit settings gear under NLE Target. See Edit settings.

Open a timeline

  1. On the done panel after a run, click Open in Final Cut. The same button sits on each row under What the run actually made, on a couple's Edit hub, and on the film builder's done screen.
  2. Hailo writes the .fcpxml next to the timeline and opens it. Final Cut imports it into the current library.

What arrives

Everything comes in one file:

  • A project for each timeline the run made (Full Clips or Steady Clips, plus any ceremony, speeches or blueprint film).
  • Your clips sorted into keyword collections by moment. Final Cut speaks in projects and keyword collections rather than timelines and bins, and the layout question in the intake wizard uses that wording when Final Cut is your editor.
  • Label colours by moment, following the Timeline Label Colors in the Edit settings gear.

There is no Build the project button for Final Cut. The one file already carries the whole project.

A real multicam, no permission needed

Final Cut reads a real multicam clip straight out of the .fcpxml. A Multicam film build opens with every angle synced, and the film builder's done screen says so: "Open in Final Cut loads a true multicam clip with every angle synced." Nothing needs granting in macOS. The Accessibility step is Premiere Pro only.

Import by hand if it does not open

  1. Click Show files on the done panel, or Reveal in Finder on the film builder.
  2. In Final Cut, choose File > Import > XML… and pick the .fcpxml.
  3. Choose the library or event to import into.

If it didn't work

What you see What to do
Nothing happens after Open in Final Cut Final Cut is not installed where macOS expects it. Import by hand as above.
"Revealed the timeline in Finder." Hailo could not find Final Cut, so it showed you the file. Import it by hand.
Final Cut says the file could not be imported The .fcpxml is older than the timeline it was made from. Click Re-export with Current Preferences and open again.
Clips import as missing The footage drive is under a different name than when Hailo analyzed it. Relink in Final Cut, or connect the drive under its original name.
A ceremony angle is on the stacked timeline but not in the multicam Hailo could not line that camera up with confidence. Add it to the multicam by hand in Final Cut.
