Community

Share a film, ask other studios a question, or post a gig for a second shooter, and use reactions, comments, best answers, raised hands and reports.

Community is the feed shared by every studio on Hailo. It opens from the top bar next to Resources and Inspiration. The header says what it is for: "Filmmakers, together." and "Drop your latest film, ask the hard business questions, find a second shooter."

Posts appear under your studio's name, city and state as set in your studio profile, with your profile photo or logo.

Note

Everything you post here is visible to every other Hailo studio. Do not post couples' private details.

Read the feed

The feed shows the newest posts first, thirty at a time. Click Load more at the bottom for the next thirty.

Filter with the chips under the header: All, Film drops, Questions, Gig board.

Each post shows who posted it, how long ago, a kind pill, a title and body, and for film drops a thumbnail with a play mark. Under the body, small avatars and a line such as "Films by Stanton is talking" show who has commented.

Post something

  1. Click New post. The New post dialog opens.
  2. Pick the kind at the top: Film drop, Question or Gig.
  3. Fill in the fields for that kind.
  4. Click Post. Your post appears at the top of the feed with a brief glow.

Film drop

Field What to enter
Film URL A YouTube or Vimeo link. The thumbnail is fetched for you
Venue type Pick one: ballroom, backyard, destination, elopement, vineyard, church, multicultural, urban, outdoor or other
About this film "What you tried, what you'd do differently, anything worth discussing."

Question

Field What to enter
Your question The question itself, for example "Do you charge travel for weddings under 2 hours away?"
Topic pricing, gear, workflow, clients or other
Details "Context that helps other studios answer well."

Gig

Field What to enter
What you need For example a second shooter for a full day
Date The shoot date
City and State Where, for example Denver, CO
Details "Hours, gear expectations, rate range, how to reach you."

A gig post shows the date, the place, Paid or Unpaid, and a Filled badge once you mark it filled.

React and comment

  • Click the heart on a post to react. Click again to take it back. The count sits next to it.
  • Click the comment count to open the comments. Type in Add a comment and click Reply. The poster gets a notification, "New comment on your" post.

Best answer

On your own question, hover a comment and click Best answer ("Pin as best answer"). That comment is pinned to the top with a Best answer label, and its author gets a notification, "Your answer was pinned". Click it again on another comment to move the pin.

Gigs: raise a hand and mark filled

If the gig is not yours:

  1. Click Raise a hand under the post. The button changes to Hand raised and stays that way. The poster gets a notification, "A studio raised a hand on your gig", and picks from there, outside Hailo.

If the gig is yours:

  • The button reads "N raised". Click it to see who raised a hand, with any note they left. With nobody yet it reads "No hands raised yet."
  • Click Mark filled once you have your shooter. The post shows a Filled badge and nobody else can raise a hand. Click Reopen to take it back.

Watch a film drop

Click the thumbnail. Where the film can play inside Hailo it plays in place with a Close player control; otherwise it opens in a browser window.

Report or delete

  • Report appears on other studios' posts. Click it once and it reads Confirm report; click again and it reads Reported. A post that collects three reports disappears from the feed for everyone.
  • Delete appears on your own posts. Click it once for Confirm delete, again to remove the post and its comments.

Neither asks in a pop-up; the second click is the confirmation.

Empty and error states

Message Meaning
"Start the conversation" and a line inviting you to drop a film, ask a question or post a gig The feed (or the filter you picked) has no posts yet
"Could not load the feed" and "Check your connection and refresh." Hailo could not reach the feed. Check that you are online and reopen the page

If it didn't work

  • My post shows no name or city. Fill in your studio name and location under Settings. Posts take a snapshot of your profile when you post, so update it and post again.
  • The film thumbnail did not appear. The link is not a YouTube or Vimeo video link. Post again with the plain video link.
  • Raise a hand is missing on a gig. The gig is filled, or it is your own gig.
  • A post I saw earlier is gone. Its author deleted it, or it was reported three times.
Still stuck? Send a note from the contact page and a real person at Hailo answers. Include the studio name you signed up with and, if it is about a specific screen, what you clicked.
