Moments and labels

A moment is the part of the wedding day a clip belongs to. Hailo labels every main-footage clip with one, colors it on the timeline, and uses the moments to order bins and timelines in your editor. You choose which moments to track at intake, and you can change any clip's label afterwards.

The standard wedding moments

Each moment has a color that follows it onto the timeline, so you can read the day at a glance in your editor. The colors below are the defaults; click the dot on a selected chip at intake to change one.

Sub-moments have their own colors (Bride Prep is rose, Groom Prep is blue, Family Portraits teal, Formal Dances brown, and so on) so you can tell them apart on the timeline when you choose to track them.

The Establishing label

Establishing is the name for venue and scene-setting shots: the church from across the field, the drive up, the skyline at dusk. Older parts of the workspace still show this moment's filter chip as Venue; it is the same label.

Did these happen?

First Look, Private Vows and Formal Dances live in a Did these happen? group at the bottom of the moments screen. Selecting one tells Hailo the moment happened and to look for it; leaving it off keeps Hailo from labeling a guest hug as a first look.

The general set for non-wedding days

Rehearsal dinners, welcome parties, brunches and couple sessions do not have a ceremony or a first dance, so any day you mark as something other than Wedding day is labeled with a general set instead:

How moments order your project

The moments carry the order of the day, and your export follows it:

• With Separated into bins, you get one bin (or keyword collection) per moment, in day order: Prep, First Look, Ceremony, Portrait, Reception, Speeches, Dancing, Detail, Establishing.
• With A timeline per category, one timeline per moment, in the same order.
• With a single timeline, clips run in story order: by moment first, then by time within the moment.
• Detail shots either sit in the story at the moment they were shot, or gather into a Details group, depending on your answer to Detail shots: where should they end up?

On multi-day projects the days come first (rehearsal dinner before wedding day), and within each day the moments follow the order above.

Where to see and change a clip's moment

Every clip card in the grid shows its moment badge, and the moment filter above the grid shows one chip per moment. Click the badge, or right-click the clip and choose Change moment…, to pick a different one. See Correcting a label.

Timeline colors per moment can also be changed after the run under Timeline Label Colors in the Edit settings, followed by a re-export. See Edit settings.
