Add footage to a project

Intake is how a wedding's footage gets into Hailo. You name the couple, drop the wedding folder, check what Hailo found in it, and then choose what Hailo should do with it. This article covers the first half, up to the review screen; Choosing what to run covers the questions that follow.

Open intake

Any of these opens the intake screen:

• Sort a wedding on the Edit launchpad.
• Sort footage or Resume analysis on a couple's Edit hub.
• Start the edit on the offload Done screen (the couple and the folder are already filled in).
• New Project in the project sidebar of the workspace.

Close the screen at any time with the X in the top corner. Nothing runs until you press the start button on the last step.

Which couple is this edit for?

The first screen asks Which couple is this edit for? with the line "Pick the wedding these clips belong to." While your couples load it reads Loading your couples….

1. Type in Search couples… to filter the list, or scroll. Every couple in Manage is here, whatever their status.
2. Click the couple.
3. Click Next. It stays disabled until you have picked someone.

If a run for this couple is already in progress, a strip above the list offers to pick it up where you left off.

If the couple is not in Hailo yet, click Add a new couple and fill in Partner 1 and Partner 2 (the fields show examples like Sarah and James). The couple is created in Manage too.

Empty states: No couples yet (with a prompt to add one below) and No couples match your search.

Drop the wedding folder

The next screen is headed Let's get this done right. with the line "Drop your wedding folder: audio, drone, every camera. We'll figure out the rest."

Drag the wedding folder onto the drop zone (Drop or click to select your wedding folder), or click it to pick the folder. The hint under it says any camera is fine: Sony, Canon, GoPro, DJI, Zoom recorders, whatever you shot on. Drop the top-level wedding folder, with the camera folders and the audio folder inside it, so Hailo can sort the folders for you on the next screen.

Hailo reads the footage where it sits. Nothing is copied or moved, and the original files are never changed.

Footage already offloaded for this couple

If you offloaded cards for this couple on this Mac, a strip headed Footage already offloaded for this couple appears under the drop zone. Each row names the folder and when it was offloaded. Click Use this footage to skip the drop and go straight to the review.

Messages on this step

• "No folder selected": the picker was closed without choosing anything.
• "Folder picker failed:" followed by the reason: the system picker could not open. Try again, or drag the folder in instead.
• "Drag-and-drop needs the Hailo app" followed by a prompt to click the box: you are not in the desktop app. Click the drop zone to choose the folder.

Reading your footage

Once the folder is in, the screen reads Reading your footage… with "Hang tight, scanning every folder for clips and audio." and a scanning bar labeled Looking at your folder…. Hailo walks every subfolder, counts clips and audio, and works out what each folder is.

When the scan finishes the subtitle changes to "Want to give us a head start? Label any folder, or leave it on Auto-detect." and the screen shows:

• A token chip reading "≈ N tokens for this run · 2 h 30 m of footage". It reacts as you change folder labels. See Tokens and run cost.
• The folder list, one row per subfolder, each with a clip count and a label dropdown. Next to the dropdown, a hint shows what Hailo guessed: Drone, Action cam, Long-form, Main footage, Audio or Excluded. Rows you route away from analysis (long-form, drone, action camera, excluded) get a note explaining the saving and whether the clips stay in the clip grid.
• A summary line at the bottom: folders, clips, audio files and total size.

Every folder starts on Auto-detect. Change a label from the dropdown whenever the guess is wrong; the seven labels and what each does are in Folder labels.

Click Next to continue. It stays disabled until the scan has found at least one video or audio file. Back returns to the drop screen.

Messages on this step

• "No video or audio files found in this folder.": the folder has nothing Hailo can use. Go back and pick the folder the footage is actually in.
• "Could not read folder:" followed by the reason: the folder could not be opened. Check the drive is mounted and try again.

What comes next

From the days step onward, a run-context row at the top of each screen shows the couple, the clip count and the folder, and a Start over link that discards these answers and returns to the beginning. When you came back to a run in progress, the row also reads Picking up where you left off.

This footage is already done

If you drop a folder Hailo has already finished, you see the badge Already analyzed, the heading This footage is already done. and "Hailo already has a finished project for this folder." Choose:

• Open results to open the finished project, or
• Re-analyze from scratch to run the whole analysis again. See Re-analyzing.

Processing and done

After you start the run, the intake screen shows the current stage, a progress bar with N% complete and an estimate (estimating… until Hailo has a pace), the list of stages, a rolling log, and the note "You can close this window, we'll keep working in the background. Your project is already in the sidebar." Click Back to Hailo to leave the screen; the full progress card in the workspace shows the same run. See The progress screen.

When the run finishes the screen reads Your wedding is ready. with "Hailo classified your clips and built your project." Click Open in Hailo to go to the results, or Start another to begin the next wedding.
