Connect Apple Calendar

Sync Hailo with iCloud Calendar using an app-specific password from your Apple ID.

Apple Calendar connects over CalDAV, the standard iCloud calendars speak. It needs an app-specific password from your Apple ID, which takes about five minutes to make once. After that, new events you save in Hailo push to your default iCloud calendar, and your Apple events show up on the Hailo calendar.

Note

Your Apple ID needs two-factor authentication turned on. Apple only issues app-specific passwords to accounts that have it.

Make an app-specific password

  1. Open appleid.apple.com in a browser and sign in.
  2. Under Sign-In and Security, click App-Specific Passwords.
  3. Click + and label it Hailo.
  4. Confirm with your Apple ID password if asked.
  5. Apple shows a one-time 16-character password. Copy it now. Apple does not show it again.

Apple allows up to 25 app-specific passwords. You can revoke this one at any time from the same page, which disconnects Hailo.

Connect Apple Calendar

  1. Open Settings > Integrations.
  2. On the Apple Calendar tile, click Connect Apple →. The Connect Apple Calendar page opens.
  3. Fill in the two fields.
  4. Click Test & connect. Hailo signs in to iCloud before saving. On success you return to Integrations with "Apple Calendar connected." and the number of calendars found.
Field What to enter
Apple ID (email) The email you sign in to iCloud with.
App-specific password The 16-character password from above: four groups of four lowercase letters, separated by hyphens. Never your regular Apple ID password.

What syncs

  • New events saved in Hailo push to your default iCloud calendar.
  • Events on your Apple calendar show on the Hailo calendar.

Which iCloud calendar receives events is decided by iCloud's default, not a setting in Hailo.

The connected state

The tile reads Connected as followed by your Apple ID, and: "New event saves push to your default iCloud calendar via CalDAV."

Action What it does
Reconfigure Reopens the Connect Apple Calendar page with your Apple ID filled in. Enter a password and click Test & connect to save. The page also shows Apple ID and Last used.
Disconnect Removes the connection. Hailo asks "Disconnect Apple Calendar?" on the tile, or "Disconnect Apple Calendar? Existing pushed events stay on your calendar." on the connect page. Events already on iCloud stay there.

If it didn't work

  • "Both fields are required." One of the two fields was empty.
  • "Connection failed:" followed by a reason. Usually the password was typed wrong or is not an app-specific password. Make a new one at appleid.apple.com and try again. Also check that two-factor authentication is on for the Apple ID.
  • Events stopped syncing after a while. The app-specific password was revoked, often after an Apple ID password change. Make a new one and click Reconfigure.
  • Weddings appear twice on your iPhone. You are both connected here and subscribed to the feed link from the Google Calendar strip. Remove the subscription. See Subscribe any other calendar app.
