Re-export a timeline

Change organisation, trimming or label colours and write a fresh timeline without analyzing again.

Everything about how a timeline is laid out (bins or one timeline, split by part of day, trimmed or whole, which colour each moment gets) is a preference, not part of the analysis. Change a preference and re-export. Nothing is analyzed again and nothing is charged.

Re-export with Current Preferences

  1. Open the Edit settings gear and change what you want under Workflow Preferences or Timeline Label Colors. Click Save Colors if you changed colours. See Edit settings.
  2. On the results screen, click Re-export with Current Preferences. It is on the completion banner and again lower on the progress card under "Changed your preferences? Re-export without re-analyzing."
  3. Open the timeline in your editor again.

The re-export goes to the same file and overwrites it. There is one timeline per wedding per run, so you do not end up with a stack of near-identical files. See Where files land.

Export XML vs Full Clips XML

The toolbar above the clip grid has two export buttons under Preview:

Button What it writes
Export XML The timeline with your current settings: colours, trimming, organisation. If the run trimmed shaky footage, this is Steady Clips.
Full Clips XML Every clip whole, no trimming, still labelled and coloured. This is Full Clips.

Use Full Clips XML when you want the trimmed timeline for the edit and the whole clips on hand for a moment Hailo trimmed too tightly.

Timeline label colours

The colour legend under the completion banner (and again next to the re-export controls) shows the colour each moment carries in your editor. The heading names your editor, and the swatches are that editor's palette, since Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve each have their own label set.

To change a colour:

  1. Open the Edit settings gear.
  2. Under Timeline Label Colors ("Change clip colors per moment, then re-export your XML."), pick a new colour for the moment.
  3. Click Save Colors.
  4. Click Re-export with Current Preferences.

Turn Color Coding off under Workflow Preferences to export with no label colours at all.

Change organisation without re-analyzing

The layout questions in the intake wizard set your starting point. Change them later in the Edit settings gear:

Then click Re-export with Current Preferences. With DaVinci Resolve, a change to trimming or organisation makes a new Resolve project named for the new selection. See Open in DaVinci Resolve.

If it didn't work

What you see What to do
The timeline in your editor did not change Your editor cached the old import. Remove the old sequence and import the file again, or open it from Show files.
The colours are right in Hailo but wrong in the editor Click Save Colors before re-exporting. Colours are not applied until saved.
"Could not export the timeline." The deliverables folder is not writable. Check the drive and try again.
