A card isn't showing up

Add a card, an SSD or a folder by path when it does not appear in the offload list, and know what Hailo counts as a card.

You plugged a card in and it is not in the Available cards to offload list, or the Card detected toast never appeared.

Add it by path

This is the fix for every case below, and it takes ten seconds.

  1. On the cards step of the offload screen, click Card not showing up? Add a folder or SSD.
  2. Type or paste the path to the volume or folder, for example /Volumes/YourCardOrSSD. Or click Browse… and pick it.
  3. Click Add.

The volume then gets a row like any other card, with the same role, folder name, folder tick list and tags. Everything after that is identical to a card Hailo found on its own.

What Hailo counts as a card

Hailo recognises a card by its camera folder layout: a DCIM, PRIVATE or similar camera folder at the top level of the volume. That is what fills the list automatically.

What you plugged in In the list on its own?
A card straight out of a Sony, Canon, ARRI, RED or Blackmagic body Yes
An SSD recorder's volume with a camera folder at the top Yes
A plain SSD full of loose files or your own folder structure No. Add it by path
A folder someone already copied to your drive No. Add it by path
A card with nothing on it It appears with an Empty card badge. Nothing to copy

A drive that is not a card is not a problem. It is only something Hailo cannot identify by looking. Add it by path and offload it the same way.

Readers and hubs

If nothing at all appears:

  1. Check the card mounts in Finder. If Finder cannot see it, Hailo cannot either. That is a reader, cable or card problem, not a Hailo one.
  2. Try the card in another slot of the reader, or another reader.
  3. On a hub or dock, plug the reader straight into the Mac instead. Bus-powered hubs with several readers on them are the usual culprit when some cards appear and others do not.
  4. Once Finder shows it, use Card not showing up? Add a folder or SSD with its path under /Volumes/.

The toast appears once per card

Insert a card while Hailo is open on any wing and a toast appears in the corner: Card detected, "Start an offload?".

Hailo shows it once per card, and not at all while the offload screen is already open. So a toast you dismissed, or a card you have already inserted this session, will not show it again. That is not a sign the card was missed.

To start an offload without the toast, click Offload footage on the Edit launchpad.

If it didn't work

Hailo says "That's the destination". You pointed the source picker at the drive you chose as the destination. Pick the card instead.

"The native folder dialog only works in the installed app". You are not in the Mac app. Type the destination path into the field and press Return.

The card shows as Recognized with the wrong role. Hailo remembers each card and fills in what it was last time. Tap the right role and carry on.

The card is listed but the copy will not start. The button says why when it is disabled: "Pick a drive first" or "Pick a camera above".

"Not enough room on {drive}". Hailo checks free space before writing anything. The message spells out the numbers. Free up space or pick another drive, then start the card again. Nothing has been copied.

The full walkthrough is in Offload cards. Cards are always opened read-only: Hailo never changes, moves, renames or deletes anything on a card.
